“A more woody style”: this is how Magalie Maréchal, assistant cellar master at Maison Mumm, sums up the evolution of the style of the RSRV 4.5 cuvée. Until now, the RSRV 4.5 cuvée has been characterized by its power, finesse and fruity aromas. So, how do we move towards a more woody style?
The novelty comes from the reserve wines used in the assembly of this vintage: now these are aged in 228-litre barrels or 110-hectolitre tuns, it is from these barrels and tuns that they draw their slightly woody aroma. It is mainly due to the “youth” of these barrels.
In short, the younger a barrel or tuns is, the more it will give off woody or woody aromas. Their age is expressed in “wine”, a barrel or tuns of a wine will have contained only one wine and so on.
We will have to wait before discovering this evolution of the 4.5 vintage since it requires a minimum of 4 years of aging, a guarantee of its quality.
