Hazelnut is a primary note found in the greatest wines. Certain grape varieties, such as Chardonnay, are characteristic of its odor. In this 2006 Lalou cuvée, it is the imprint of the 50% Chardonnay from a few selected plots of the Côte des Blancs that is expressed. This odor can be amplified by aging on lees, which brings notes of nuts, coconut, toasted bread, sometimes close to notes of hazelnut. This flavor is particularly appreciable when it is counterbalanced by a mineral freshness and a tonic acidity, as is the case in the 2006 Lalou cuvée.
