La Chapelle Foujita: between Italian Renaissance and Japanese inspiration
22/04/2025
The RSRV Rosé Foujita cuvée is not the only testimony to the deep friendship between Léonard Foujita and René Lalou. The Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix Chapel, better known as the Foujita Chapel, is located within the grounds of Maison Mumm, just above the cellars. Entirely financed by René Lalou, its design is due to Léonard Foujita.
As are the colorful frescoes that adorn its walls, created between 1965 and 1966. The building evokes both the Italian Renaissance, dear to the painter, and the inspirations he drew from his native Japan. The artist also left a testimony to the relationship between the two men: he depicted himself kneeling alongside René Lalou.
